Year: 2019/2020
For the past two years, If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, commissioned me to produce jingles for their radio shows. If I Can't Dance is an organisation dedicated to exploring the evolution and typology of performance and performativity in contemporary art. In 2019 I made an intro/outro for their radio broadcasts about Gathering, Care & Embodiment. In 2020 a different intro/outro was produced for the radio shows relating to Ritual & Display.
30 seconds are so short, but within this limited timespan, I tried to merge associations, references and personal memories, including snippets of dance instructions, a poem by Adrian Piper, a song by Barbara Mason, sage burning tutorials and the sounds of the Southern University Marching Band & Dancing Dolls (see image).
You can find the full Radio Emma broadcasts in the archive of Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee.
