This text has been written, read (publicly and in private), recorded and modified in between Summer 2019 and the first months of 2020. It feels like I have been dragging it around with me for a while, and now it's time to let go.
I think the text deals with self-consciousness, ways of showing up, to arm and disarm, while considering improvisation. It's difficult to put my finger on it, and that might be the point.
Take some time to listen and maybe the threads will come together, or disentangle, in your mind.
I Would Drape it (Cut) is informed by friendships, a short residency with bi- at Sicily, difficult moments, the feeling of wearing oversized silk shirts, an invitation for a talk at the Critical Styling symposium at Plato in Ostrava, a conversation with Becket Mingwen, memories of listening to Madlib, an attempt to read 'In the Break' by Fred Moten and staying over at Kunsthal Gent, which is located in a 13th century monastery.
This text has been supported with a development grant from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.

"If the text isn't present on the page but somewhere else, then the editing should also happen somewhere else.
And tonight that editing takes place here.
I'm cutting it apart."
